Wow, and just like that the hurricane called NZFW has come and conquered. Id just like to give a massive shout out to every single person involved with NZ Fashion Week 2012. Its no cup of tea or walk in the park. The official NZFW team, volunteers, designers, models, contractor workers, bar staff, security, hair and makeup team, media coverage and every seat filler front row to back row HI FIVE and cheers to that.

This year I saw fashion week from a different angle. I was the enthusiastic and passionate admirer of fashion and style. Last year as a busy working bee there were definitely perks, but there was alot of a hard work and long hours for those perks. The peak was getting to see nearly every show, the pit was trying to look so fresh and so clean come the end of the week. I felt ragged, while many had been partying all week looked fresh as a daisy to me. How they managed to pull that off I dont know? Some of you may have heard me complain about one of my pet flaws which are my milky glazed over Maori eyes. Im sure Ill eventually bare my others to you guys at some point down the road too. I really borderline envy people that have nice fresh white eyes. When they cure that Im there!!

NEW GENERATION SHOW

So last year I was spoilt for choice and had an all access pass to fashion week. This year I really had to hustle and bustle and thanks to the lovely ladies and DMONIC INTENT I was able to go and see the New Generation show. This showcased four designers Dmonic Intent, Silence Was..., Daniel K and Arielle Mermin. I had my first Dmonic Intent encounter last year when I saw the Miromoda showcase. Even then they stood out to me as dark, edgy, bold and in control of their design aesthetic. The EIGHT collection is not for the faint hearted. It draws inspiration from the traditional Maori Poutama pattern and the number eight. Latex leggings, bold colors, bold statement Tee's. What evolution and growth in one short year. Dmonic was certainly the word on everyones lips and they did not disappoint. Thanks to these GI girls I now have a theme song when I think of the 2012 Fashion Week. 'Did it on'em' by Nicki Minaj. Id only had one cider before the show started but i was bobbin like a bobble head and this song in my head is like the Rocky victory anthem at the top of the stairs. It fuckin kicks ass!!

This was my first ever taste of the other 3 showcasing designers. I really loved the 70's inspired range from Arielle Mermin. They were like the perfect op shop pieces that you search high and low for, excpet it has that "modern" fit. Which basically means, those 70's ladies had teeny tiny waists. When I do find the perfect skirt it just wont fit. These Hulk arms also find it very hard to get into those vintage pieces. I can definitely see myself in some Arielle Mermin. Its very floaty and feminine but cool and sassy like Veronica Corningstone. I really loved the makeup of the Silence Was ... Porcelain or mannequin like with a deep gloss lip. A very winter collection with the use of light blue, caramels and greys. It reminds me of things that you would wear if you were to travel the wardrobe and end up in Narnia. Daniel K had a print that was repeated throughout the collection. I saw it as a fusion of african and tribal, like a shattered effect in taupe and black. Overall a very pleasing show and I'll keep my on the growth of all four designers.
